Ashlee Winborne

President/Founder

Ashlee Winborne is a founder and advocate dedicated to creating connection, visibility, and support for LGBTQ+ individuals across rural Alabama. Inspired by personal experiences navigating isolation and uncertainty, Ashlee helped create the Rural Alabama Resource Center to ensure others have access to resources, community, and affirming support without having to face the journey alone. Her work focuses on advocacy, outreach, and building spaces where people feel seen, valued, and safe.

With years spent working in the public eye as a journalist and producer in Walker County, Ashlee brings a unique perspective and extensive experience in community engagement, communication and relationship building. Her background allows her to help foster conversations and connections in ways that are welcoming, approachable, and centered on creating safe spaces for everyone.

Ashlee began her career in 2012 covering high school football for the Daily Mountain Eagle, a role that eventually led to a full-time position with the newspaper. Following a period of corporate transition, she later joined WBRC 6 News in Birmingham, where she expanded her work in digital media and audience engagement.

Today, Ashlee continues to specialize in digital communication, storytelling, and community outreach, skills that play a vital role in helping the Rural Alabama Resource Center grow and reach the people who need it most.
